‘The People Say No More Samozas’ and The Virgin Mary, Managua, Nicaragua

Graffiti denouncing Samoza, the infamous ruler of Nicaragua. The Samoza dynasty ruled Nicaragua from 1937 until 1979. This slogan was painted on Managua’s main cathedral which was devastated by the 1972 earthquake. Taken in 1995 the cathedral and much of Managua remained in ruins despite millions of dollars of aid pouring in from the international community, many blame Samoza for embezzling the funds.
