Child and Afghan Girl Portrait, Havana, Cuba. Mar 2006
There are many paintings depicting typical Cuban scenes for sale all over old Havana – often hanging in doorways of houses or shops. I passed this scene and was immediately captured by the gaze of this young child, and the haunting eyes of Steve McCurry’s classic portrait of an Afghan refugee girl. It was extremely unusual to see a picture that wasn’t of Cuba, but even more, it was exciting to see an excellent copy of this stunning photograph.
